At this time, Nicky and her family realised that she would need ongoing support to ensure she was able to participate in her community and to ensure quality of care in her life.
Nicole's Microboard was founded with five members including her parents, aunt, a neighbour (Sharon M), and a long term family friend (Bonnie B) who worked as a nurse. All of these people had a longstanding relationship with Nicky and their own set of skills to help as we first got started.
- From those first days in 1999 to today, the Nicole's Network of Friends society's purpose has been; To support the needs of Nicole and her family.
- That each member makes a personal commitment to establishing and maintaining a personal relationship with Nicole.
- To actively and respectively advocate in all areas of Nicole's life. To explore the options available to best serve the social, emotional, and physical needs of Nicole.
- To plan, acquire, and/or deliver social, recreational, educational, vocational, and residential programs for Nicole.
