Who is Nicky?

Nicky was born in a small town hospital in Port Alberni, when she was born she had to travel to Vancouver as she had a hole in heart. Nicole and her mother spent more then a month away from their family while doctors tried to help her become healthy enough to return home.

In the first year of her life, her family and friends began to notice that Nicky was struggling compared to other babies her age.

Luckily she had some great advocates who helped her family to determine that Nicky suffered from a rare congenital condition known as Degrouchy Syndrome 18p- (more info can be found here). While Nicky had a very active childhood, the onset of Dystonia in her teens has resulted in ongoing mobility issues for her.

Nicole has participated in many community groups and clubs with the support of her family and friends.  Nicole was born in 1978 and is now 34 years of age (2012).
